BlackBerry pauses global roll-out for BBM on iPhone and Android

So after a long time BlackBerry finally decided to release BlackBerry Messenger, or BBM, on the iPhone and Android. The dates were set; September 21 for the Android version and September 22 for the iPhone version. And when the time finally arrived, they dropped the ball.

The first comedy arrived in the form of September 21 coming and going with no sign of the Android version. Thankfully, the company kept their word and released the iPhone version on September 22 but the Android version was still not available despite the fact that it had a one day headstart. And then finally, the company pulled even the iPhone version from the App Store.

According to their blog, an unreleased version of BBM for Android was leaked online, which saw over 1.1 million people using it in the first 8 hours. This version seemingly had issues, so BlackBerry had to halt the launch of the legit versions for whatever reasons so that they could sort the issues with the leaked version, which doesn’t really make much sense.

Anyhow, BlackBerry is still working on releasing both versions of the app once again but hasn’t given any dates this time. Those who downloaded the iPhone version can seemingly use it again after a brief period of the service being down. We’ll let you know when the app hits the respective stores properly again. Until then, try and stay away from all the fakes that are floating around, especially on the Play Store.

EA Sports FIFA 14 is now available for Android and iOS

EA Sports FIFA 14 got a grand release in NZ App Store a couple of days ago and the latest action blockbuster game is now available for both Android and iOS platforms across the globe.

FIFA 14 is up for grabs on App Store and Play Store for free of cost, but the game requires you to make in-app purchases to unlock its premium features.

The latest addition from EA Sports comes with 33 leagues and has over 600 licensed teams to enjoy the game. Android Device Manager now features remote locking option

Google was expected to update its own tracking service, known as Android Device Manager with the remote locking feature. The newest security option is now available on the ADM dashboard and you can remotely lock your smartphone from the web interface.

The newest feature allows you to lock your smartphone with a new password that changes any previous screen unlock setting. Of course, you can reset the password once you find your lost or stolen Android device.

The update will be added automatically to the Google Settings app and you need to enable the “allow remote lock and factory reset” option to be able to use it from the web interface.

AT&T will be the exclusive US carrier to offer the Pebble Smartwatch

AT&T announced that it will be the exclusive wireless carrier to offer the popular Pebble Smartwatch in the United States. The gadget will be available online and in over 500 AT&T stores this Friday, on September 27.

AT&T will be charging $150 for the Pebble Smartwatch. The device is currently in the record books as the most successful KickStarter campaign to date. It works with both iOS and Android devices.

Hackers claim to have cracked the Touch ID fingerprint scanner of the iPhone 5s

According to a claim by the hackers of the Chaos Computer Club, the Touch ID fingerprint scanner of theiPhone 5s has been successfully cracked. The biometric security system has been broken by “using easy everyday means.”

The Apple fingerprint sensor has a higher resolution compared to the ones used so far. It was hacked using a high-resolution photo of the user’s fingerprint from a glass surface, printed on a latex sheet which is used as a fake.

While the Touch ID method undoubtedly works as advertised, we reckon that most users will still be safe with Touch ID activated on their iPhone 5s. • Check for visible scratches on the body

• Check for scratches on the display screen

• Check the Headphone jack, Charging port and also USB port, if the phone has any. Check whether these have coverings flaps.

• Check all the buttons.

• Check the rear side of the phone for camera lens scratches. Open the rear panel and examine the battery. The White label on it would have turned Red, if it has been damaged by water.

• Check the IMEI number that is written under the battery. Cross check it by simply typing *#06# on the screen.

• Check out the SIM slot and Memory card slot.

5. Insert your SIM card right in front of the seller. Check whether the phone gives you enough signal in the locale.

6. Try asking for a 2-4 days return policy, so that you can cancel the deal if the phone has more damages than the seller said. It will be an added advantage if he agrees it. But not all sellers are likely to agree as it will be risky for them to trust you, who is a total stranger for them.

7. Make sure it is an unlocked phone. A locked phone means, it will be locked by a particular service provider in a way that only their sim could be used in it for a particular period of time.

8. Ask the seller the reason of selling the phone. If the answer is not a genuine one, there could be something wrong with the phone. Check whether the problem pointed out by the seller is the only one.

9. Check the year of launch of the phone. Check if the phone looks over used. If so, it might not give you the performance as expected.

10. Check the camera by taking pictures and Videos. Try zooming, different settings, flash light and also editing.

11. Check the speakers by playing some songs. Examine the clarity, volume controls, head sets etc.

12. Make a test call, check the voice clarity and loud speakers.

13. Send test SMS and check the graphics, fonts, colours and smilies supported by the phone.

14. Check the brightness of the screen, try out all the options of display settings.

15. Check Bluetooth and Infrared. Check if those are good in the prescribed circle. 

16.Do not forget to check the vibration of the phone.

17. If the seller agrees for a return policy, check the battery life. Check its talk time both with and without multi tasking.

Once convinced in all these aspects, You can buy the phone. Of course, a little bit of negotiation will not harm you. Take a friend of yours with you. He might find out more details of the phone, whether positive or negative. Take with you some one, who is good at decent negotiation.

18. Once you have bought the phone, delete all the data of the previous owner from the phone. Format the memory card (if any). Delete the pictures, contacts and all data, saved by the previous owner.

BBM arriving on Android and iOS this weekend

Good news for those who have been waiting for BBM on iOS and Android (yes, all four of you). BlackBerry has finally announced the dates when you will be able to download the app for your iOS or Android device.

Android users will be getting their hands on BBM first on September 21. iPhone users, meanwhile, will have to contain their enthusiasm for a day longer, and can download the app on September 22. Both apps will be available for free from their respective stores.

For those wondering, BlackBerry Messenger or BBM works pretty much like any other messaging service out there today (or should I say the others work pretty much like BBM). You can chat with a single or multiple people at the same time and share images and voice notes with them. The one unique thing with BBM is that it does not use your mobile number but rather a unique PIN that users have to share in order to add each other to their BBM contact list. This way you can share your BBM ID without giving away your mobile number.

Jokes and sarcasm aside, it’s hard to look at this and not think it’s too little too late. BBM was a way for BlackBerry users to communicate with each other but with the advent of a dozen other IM services, even BlackBerry users these days prefer to use services such as WhatsApp. To think Android or iOS users would like to install BBM just to talk to their friends using BlackBerry phones when they could just use the existing service is a bit laughable.

4. Once you reached at C:/Sys/Data/Mmcstore you need to press "3" under option to set it in the Hex-viewer
5. In the third column you will able to see a line of code TMSD02G (c??"?x???6?2?6?2?6). 
6. Just check the character between the "?" it is your password i.e.: in TMSD02G (c??"?x???6?2?6?2?6) password is 62626

So your password is 62626, Now reset memory card password by entering this password.

Samsung Galaxy Gear vs. Qualcomm Toq vs. Sony Smartwatch 2: Put your finger on it

Smartwatches are the talk of the street right now and for a very good reason. They are cool, capable and understated. At the IFA 2013 expo, both Samsung and Qualcomm announced their smartwatch representatives: the Galaxy Gear and Toq. Naturally, we had to compare them to the Sony Smartwatch 2, which was announced a couple of months ago.

You may be thinking that smartwatches aren’t really our scope, but remember that while we are professional phone reviewers, we are also geeks. This puts the smartwatch product category right in our alley.

Okay, what makes a smartwatch tick and what is its purpose in life? It may sound a bit philosophical, but without a purpose this product niche doesn’t make any sense. Happily, those little fellas are really smart, hence their name. They are very well connected — the Sony Smartwatch 2 even boasts NFC connectivity — and all of them can connect to your mobile phone via Bluetooth.

And here’s where their wizardry kicks in. The Samsung Galaxy Gear for example can make calls on its own thanks to its built-in microphone, while its 1.9MP camera can snap 10-second 720p videos and make photos that get automatically uploaded to its accompanying Samsung Galaxy smartphone or tablet.

We admit that the Qualcomm Toq announcement was a surprise – you don’t get to see a chipset manufacturer dip its toe into a niche that’s outside its main reach. This means that the smartwatch market is a lucrative one, and that’s hardly a surprise considering their coolness factor at the moment.

It all sounds very futuristic, doesn’t it? Being able to use your watch for a lot more than just checking the time and date. All of those three have made an appearance at IFA 2013 and all promise to be readily available at your disposal for call making, music controlling, weather checking, social network updating and what else not. Heck, the Samsung Galaxy Gear can even take pictures.

And you know what? None of this matters and here’s why. Not any of these three smartwatches can enter in a beauty contest against an old-fashioned, regular wrist watch. Yes, they are smarter and have more functionality, but their displays can’t match the mechanical, precision work of a regular watch. Not to mention their overall design. They just look juvenile, especially the Toq and Smartwatch 2. Kudos to Samsung for trying to make their Galaxy Gear look a bit more stylish with its metal face.

Then there’s the battery life. The Sony Smartwach 2 and processor, Toq can go from 3 to 5 days of low usage with their screen constantly on, but the Galaxy Gear would last even less at just 1 day. That’s the compromise needed for the fast prHow annoying is having to take your watch off every single night just to charge it up? That’s neither practical, nor intuitive unless they come up with some wireless charging solution which can sit by your bed and double as an alarm clock. We’ve accepted the need for charging our smartphones frequently, but who pampers their wrist watch.

Smartwatches may just have their evolution kickstarted by the potential they hold. Running apps and doing the aforementioned features is cool and useful, but the battery life and display quality just hasn’t caught up yet. Not to mention their performance, which sometimes can get you out of your skin.

As in everything, this is a matter of which aspects you are willing to trade off. If you value rich connectivity features and running apps on your watch more than having a stylish, durable and enduring accessory on your hand, then get either one of those three. You’ll look equally ridiculous in the street (Google Glass, I am seriously looking at you, too).
